Additional Details

A pardon issued by the viceroy of New Grenada to the participants in the Comuneros insurrection. The rebellion's leader José Antonio Galán had already been decapitated, drawn and quartered, but by this decree his body was to be removed from public display and given a Christian burial. This early example of Bogotá printing is illustrated with an engraving of the Viceroy's seal, believed to be the first engraving printed in what is now Colombia. Medina, Bogotá 7.
